More Marketers Use Social Media, Survey Says

This Article from AdWeek shows the mainstream adoption of social media by client side marketers nationwide.

In a nutshell:  65% Of the professionals polled stated that search engine marketing through Google, Bing and others were the most effective new-media means of attracting customers.  A smaller 59% thought their own web sites were the most effective means.

Email marketing received 45% of the respondents saying they use the platform for marketing.  This is a lot lower than I think that it would be.  No mention is made if this is a trend that is increasing/decreasing.  I find that email marketing is a very effective means of reaching customers and staying top of mind.

As can be expected, of huge concern for those polled are the inability to prove return on investment (ROI).  This is somewhat founded with FaceBook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but is not true when looking at Google AdWords.  One of the benefits to using social media through the web is the ability to track.  We use Bit.ly to gauge the effectiveness of a Twitter link and for each promotion that is web-only we have been known to slightly change what needs to be printed out and redeemed to gauge proper wording and promotional content.  This takes smart marketing to track, but it definitely can be done.

Most used new-media websites for marketing

  1. Facebook - 74%
  2. Twitter -     65%
  3. YouTube -  65%
  4. LinkedIn -  60%

Read on for more information about where the monies came from to fund these new media trends.  (more...)

Call to Action Pointers

Many of our customers want to create advertisements that are focused on a display of information and an explanation of the service or product. While this helps brand awareness, it does little to spur a customer to act. This model is close to that of a typical TV commercial showing the latest wares from a consumer goods company. The key in this day and age is to encourage a sale by pushing the customer to make a decision. more...

SiteProNews: Where’s Social Media Headed?

This is a great article from the folks at Site Pro News.  It quickly goes over the 5 reasons why every small business should be embracing social media.

While a couple of the points are a bit common sense two strong points remain:  start with social media today - your competitors are and so you must start, too and the second strong point is that frequency is just as important as content.

You cannot start a campaign or marketing effort without a full commitment.  If you choose your social media campaign that way, you will fail.  Being consistent with you message and consistently communicating on the social media platforms is important to remain relevant.  more...

Starbucks Dethrones Coke As Top Facebook Brand - MediaPost Publications.

By Mark Walsh

Starbucks Image

In this informative article about the success that Starbucks is having with it's Facebook page we learn their secrets to Facebook success.  This week they surged past Coke to have the highest number of fans on all of Facebook.

The formula is easy:  offer coupons.  By continuously engaging their customers, offering incentives to revisit and giving away freebies, Starbucks has been extremely successful in promoting to their fans.

Small businesses can learn a lot from Starbuck's example.  Creating a Facebook Fan Page is straightforward, but to generate buzz you have to continually update it and pay attention to it.  Your customers demand that you interact and you have to give them a reason to return.  Coupons are great, but so are contests that test your customers level of commitment.

Read on for more detail on Starbuck's achievement.
